Content Knowledge

The content knowledge teaching standard draws on the importance of teachers being educated in the subjects that they teach. It is very important that teachers not only know the pedagogy, but also have a deep understanding of what they are teaching. This standard requires teachers to do extensive research on the subjects they teach, which puts them in the best situation to pass knowledge to their students. If a teacher is not a master in the subjects they teach, students become confused and do not have the proper guidance needed to become knowledgeable themselves. Teachers who strive for content knowledge will continuously grow and become better at their jobs. Teachers who do not work toward gaining extensive content knowledge will likely fail to pass knowledge to their students in the best of their ability.

SERVICE LEARNING REFLECTION

As part of my FOUN 3100 class, we as students got to participate in the service learning program in Auburn City Schools. Throughout this program, I volunteered at Wrights Mill Road Elementary one day a week. While there, I worked with many students in various subjects. I was fortunate enough to work with students of all different backgrounds. This reflection gave me an opportunity to reflect on the teaching practices that I observed, as well as the teaching practices of my own. By doing so, I was able to identify which practices were more succcessful in a classroom setting.

RESEARCH PAPER

During my HIST 5310 class, I wrote multiple research papers. On this particular assignment, I was asked to write a paper on one of the topics given by my instructor. The topic that I chose to write about was "Did The French Revolution abolish privilege?" To write this paper, I had to conduct extensive research using a variety of resources. As an educator, gathering information through research is a vital skill. I plan to use this particular skill to gather content knowledge that I will then share with my students.
